This memorial commemorates Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat that saved the lives of thousands of men, women and children who had been taken to the extermination camps only because of their Jewish condition. Raoul Wallenberg was born in 1912. During the Second World War, he was a Swedish diplomat in Budapest, Hungary.

Raoul Wallenberg köpte också under sin period i Budapest totalt ett 30-tal hus, ”svenskhusen”, i det så kallade internationella ghettot i Budapest (kring Szent István-parken, där ett Wallenberg-monument står idag). Ghettot hade konstruerats av pilkorsarna för de judar som stod under internationellt beskydd.

This tree was planted by His Worship, the Mayor of Caulfield Councillor Emil Braun, J.P. 23rd October 1988 Hope, a Monument to Raoul Wallenberg by Hungarian artists Gustav Kraitz and Ulla Kraitz and architects Abel, Bainson and Butz was dedicated on November 9, 1988 on a traffic island at 1st Avenue and East 47th Street along Raoul Wallenberg Walk. The monument, a gift of the family of Hilel Storch of Stockholm, features five black diabase columns, mined from Swedish bed-rock, each with two sides Raoul Wallenberg Monument is a memorial in Stockholm County. Raoul Wallenberg Monument is situated nearby to Skeppsholmen.

Det har gjorts dokumentärer, spelfilmer, musikaler och skrivit operor och Raoul Wallenberg disappeared into Soviet Union custody in 1945, and at one time the Soviets claimed that he had died in custody in 1947, but it is unknown what really happened to Wallenberg. The monument created by sculptor Karl Duldig, was initiated by Professor Frank Vajda, Head of the Free Wallenberg Australian Committee.
